Tips for preserving your PETZL headlamps
Published on 09/4/2018
Information from the PETZL documentation
Use of the Frontales Petzl lights
- Carry your headlamp in a specific pocket to protect the glass of the focus.
- After use, lock your lamp to avoid the unwanted ignitions. The locking function is specific to each lamp.
Optimize life of rechargeable batteries
- Completely recharge a battery before first use.
- Do not immerse a rechargeable battery in the water.
- After use in a wet environment, remove the rechargeable batteries and let them dry in the air and protected from UV (ultraviolet rays). Avoid proximity to sources of heat such as direct light from the Sun, a fire, or a radiator.
- In anticipation of an extended lamp storage, remove the batteries. Store the batteries in a well ventilated, dry and away from direct light from the Sun.
Lithium Ion batteries
- Lithium Ion Petzl batteries are guaranteed for one year for 300 charge cycles. They can be recharged 300 times (after 300 charge/discharge cycles, they have still about 70% of initial capacity).
- Lithium Ion batteries lose 10% of their capacity per year, they are used or not, regardless of the number of cycles.
- Charging a Lithium Ion battery temperature must be between 0 ° C and + 40 ° C to avoid damage.
- -Avoid, for example, charging a battery with a charger car, under a windshield exposed in full sun.
- -Do not recharge a battery by leaving it in a case, or a box, this can generate excessive heat that can damage the battery.
- The use and storage of a Lithium Ion battery temperature must be between-30 ° C and + 50 ° C to avoid damage.
- For ATEX lamps, operating and storage temperature must be between-30 ° C and + 40 ° C.
- The ideal room temperature for refills, the use and storage of a Lithium Ion battery is approximately 20 ° C.
- Negative temperature below 0 ° C reduces the autonomy of the lamp, because the discharge is faster and makes the lower light intensity. However, these drawbacks are temporary. Once the molecules of reheated Lithium Ion battery recovers its previous capacity.
- A high temperature above 50 ° C, risk of permanent damage to the cell of a battery.
- However, this is not instantaneous, but repeat several times uses to a high temperature to see damage. Never leave your headlamp behind a windshield, glass, or in safe if the outside temperature is high.
Batteries nickel cadmium (Ni-Cd) and nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH)
- Petzl Ni-MH batteries can be recharged 500 times.
- Attention, the full discharge of a Ni-MH battery can affect its performance, or even cause gaseous emissions and leaks of toxic products. Feel free to recharge a battery partially used or stored for more than two weeks.
- Self-discharge during extended storage: nickel batteries lose at least 10% of their capacity on the first day of no use, then about 20% per month.
- The charge of the batteries to nickel should be done at a temperature above 10 ° C and below 40 ° C.
- Always use your batteries at a temperature higher than-20 ° C and below + 60 ° C.
- Store your batteries at temperatures between-20 ° C and + 35 ° C.
Maintenance
- After use in muddy or salty environment (seaside), rinse with fresh water.
- Remove the batteries or rechargeable batteries.
- Dry the lamp with the housing open batteries.
- Do not close the casing of a waterproof lamp with moisture inside.
- Wash the outside of the lamp (box lamp and glass) in warm soapy water (ph neutral) at 30 ° C maximum.
- Wipe the glass of the focus with a soft cloth. Do not rub on the glass with an abrasive.
- Avoid any contact of the glass with grease. In case of contact with grease, wipe dry with a cloth and rinse with water.
- Remove and wash the elastic as a cold, fragile textile headbands in washing machine no spin.
- Elastic Headbands are available as spare parts.
Maintenance, repair
- Never remove a lamp outside the replacement of spare parts provided and referenced in the Petzl catalogs. These components must be identical to the original parts and be sold with their instructions.
The disposal of end-of-life
- For your safety, be sure to put off your equipment when necessary. A product must be scrap if:
- He has more than 10 years and is made of plastic or textiles.
- He suffered a major fall or an effort important.
- The result of the verifications of the product is not satisfactory.
- If there is a doubt about its reliability.
- Its full usage history is not known (product found or used for example).
- Its use is deprecated (legislative, normative evolution, technique or incompatibility with other equipment).
Attention: destroy your product to make it unusable prior to disposal.
