Battery - Battery: what not to do!
Published on 07/18/2014
Bad manipulation can deteriorate quickly and irreparably your batteries or batteries. Each product has maintenance rules that must be met in order to see their long service life. Devices using these batteries and cells can also be damaged, it should not forget to deal seriously.
We will detail you the main sources of damage of the batteries and the batteries and give you good practices for greater longevity.
The batteries
- Do not use charger to recharge. A battery does not load)see blog)
- Do not short-circuit the polarity with a cable or anything conductive. The battery will discharge very quickly by generating much heat.
- Do not mix the size and type of batteries in the same device.
- Do not only change a battery on 2. A balancing will occur and you will finally only medium-sized batteries show low.
- Do not store a battery, there are risks that it sank and damaged your apparatus irreversibly, so immediately remove any battery device.
- Do not discard in nature)see blog)
- Do not burn. (Risk of explosion)
- Do not store batteries out of their packaging, or carry them in a pocket or a purse. They could be shorted, leak or explode on contact with metal objects.
- Always keep batteries out of reach of young children.
- Remove the batteries from all a mains-powered device.
- Do not store batteries in a warm place. Prefer a cool and dry place.
Sealed lead acid VRLA battery
- Do not add electrolyte (acid).
- Do not add water.
- Do not use a car battery charger or a battery charger for NiMh battery
- Do not store the battery more than 3 months without a maintenance charge.
- Do not let the battery completely discharged more than 24 h without reloading it.
- Do not short-circuit the polarity with a cable or anything conductive.
- Do not let the battery get hot to the touch and boiling heavily during the charging.
- Do not mix the size and type of batteries.
- Always keep batteries out of reach of young children.
- Do not store batteries in a warm place. Prefer a cool and dry place.
State of charge of a battery according to its voltage.
State of charge | Voltage | |
12V | 6V | |
100% | 12.7 v | 6.3 v |
75% | 12.4 v | 6.2 v |
50% | 12.2 v | 6.1 v |
25% | 12.0 v | 6.0 v |
Unloaded | 11.9 v | 5.9/6 v |
NiCd - NiMh battery
- Do not use a lead battery charger
- Do not load more than 12 h.
- A NiCd battery must be stored unloaded.
- NiMH battery must be stored Charge.
- Do not allow the battery to heat.
- Do not short-circuit the polarity with a cable or anything conductive.
- Do not let the battery get very hot when charging.
- Do not mix the size and type of batteries.
- Do not only change a battery on 2. A balancing will occur and you will finally only medium-sized batteries show low.
- Always keep rechargeable batteries out of the reach of young children.
- Do not store batteries in a warm place. Prefer a cool and dry place.
